The residential history

In the 20th century Babylon has constantly grown.

In 1910 the railway from Domazlice to Pobezovice and Tachov was finished.

After the improvement of the transport accessability to Babylon the local holiday resort and vacation activities expanded.

In 1930 there were 192 residents in 55 houses in Babylon already.

During the 2nd World War the village, together with other Chodsko villages, got attached to German territory, Waldmunchen district.

In 1950 there were 318 residents in 80 houses in Babylon.

After administrative reforms in 1960 through to 1990 Babylon was part of the town Domazlice.

In 1961 Babylon had 236 residents in 48 houses.

In 1970 Babylon had 213 residents in 61 houses.

In 1980 Babylon had 205 residents in 56 houses.

In 1991 there were 242 residents in 68 houses, out of which 58 were family houses, whereas 24 properties were recreational.

According to the last town census in 2001 there are 284 residents in Babylon living in 102 houses (out of which 65 are family houses, but 31 of them were uninhabited) and 122 flats.

There is a shop, a number of restaurants and hotels, a car-camp, a station house, a recreational lake, a number of sports grounds and a bus stop in the village.

Social activities are usually tied to local social and recreational sports areas (a lake, sports grounds including the tennis courts, car-camp and a station house), not mentioning the erotic clubs and a nearby vietnamese market.

Babylon with its surroundings is a significant holiday resort. In the past the yearly number of holiday makers was  about 50 000 and about 10 000 trade-union holidaymakers. During the summer season there are about 3 000 holidaymakers on the beaches of the Babylon lake.

A number of notable personalities have spent their holiday here. In the thirties of the 20th century it was, for example, professor Bohuslav Brauner, a chemik that contributed to the bloom of the local resort by popularization of the chemical analysis of the water in the local lake. Also, on a couple of occassions, the writer K. Konrad stayed here (1948, 1951, 1952).
